This week, we enter into a month on the Jewish calendar known as Elul. This month comes right after the month of Av when we commemorate the destruction of the 2 Temples. This period is known as a time of comfort and love. It is a time when God is inviting His people to draw close by way of the month of Elul and the holidays of Rosh Hashanah (The New Year) and Yom Kippur (The Day of Atonement/ Judgement). It is also a time of reconciling with each other and encouraging each other to seek God.

One of the ways we can do that at this time is by buying the products of Jews from Israel who are working hard to see the fulfillment of the words of the ancient Prophets of Israel. They are on the Biblical frontlines, not just for themselves but also for our benefit. We can encourage them to continue by putting our money where our mouth is. If we want to draw near to the God of Israel during this holiday season, then let us also draw near to the people of Israel! They need our encouraging words, actions, and purchases. It is one thing to say you support Israel. It is a whole other statement to raise an Israeli flag or put a bumper sticker on your car.

And even more significant than that is when you practically invest in the families living out the prophets’ words! Do not think any more of these pioneers as “the people over there…” Instead, they should become “OUR People!” Even as Ruth told Naomi, “Your people shall be my people, and your God my God” (Ruth 1:16). If the God of Israel is your God, then the people living in the mountains and valleys of Israel are your people! What are you going to do about it? In this season of comfort and love, let’s show our support and let the people of Israel know that they are not alone during this time!
