Biden's embrace of an anti-Israel agenda.

Since President Biden was elected in November, many people have been pointing out the likelihood and the dangers of him returning to the kind of anti-Israel policies we saw for eight years under Barack Obama, when Biden was vice president. In November, we wrote about what a Biden Presidency might look like for Israel, hoping that President Biden would keep in place the pro-Israel policies instituted by President Trump that led to so much peace and prosperity in the Middle East.

Unfortunately, just a week into the new Biden administration, it is clear that the new administration is intent on shifting back to a disastrous and anti-Israel foreign policy.

On the day that Mr. Biden was sworn into office, the Free Beacon reported that the Biden administration changed the name of the U.S. Ambassador to Israel’s Twitter account to say, "the official Twitter account of the U.S. Ambassador to Israel, the West Bank and Gaza.” After a big outcry from various pro-Israel politicians and groups, the account name was reverted back to its original state.

President Biden's new appointments have also clearly shown his intentions on foreign policy, specifically related to Israel. Tony Blinken, whom Biden appointed as his Secretary of State, served under Obama from 2013 to 2016, was a key backer of Obama's disastrous Iran deal (JCPOA) and has already signaled President Biden's intention to reenter the deal. Wendy Sherman, who President Biden just appointed Deputy Secretary of State, was a chief negotiator of the deal with Iran. These moves clearly show President Biden's intention of reentering the JCPOA, which undermined Israel and other key allies in the Middle East and greatly magnified the Iranian nuclear threat.

President Biden's nomination of Samantha Power as the head of U.S. aid also signals a return to the days of America pressuring Israel to concede land to those who seek Israel’s destruction. Power, who served as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations under President Obama was a key part of pushing United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334, which condemns any Israeli presence in Judea and Samaria calling for an end to any settlement activities in what they refer to as "occupied Palestinian territory."

In the final weeks of the Obama Administration, then Vice President Joe Biden also played a key role in pushing this resolution. As we outlined in an earlier article, it was the first anti-Israel resolution proposed by the UN Security Council that was not vetoed by the U.S. since 2002. Instead, the U.S. abstained from voting, allowing the vote to pass. Vice President Biden, was a key backer of the resolution and reportedly made a phone call to Ukraine and pressured them to change their vote on the resolution from no to yes, assuring that the vote would be 14-0, giving the U.S. an excuse to abstain. In her speech to the U.N. about the United States abstention, Samantha Power stated that settlements in Judea and Samaria were an obstacle to peace and reaffirmed that the U.S. was committed to a two-state solution. "The settlement problem has gotten so much worse that it is now putting at risk the very viability of that two-state solution." she said.

Another appointee with a troubling history is Reema Dodin, who was named the Biden Administration’s deputy director of the Office of Legislative Affairs (OLA), last November. The OLA serves as the President’s liaison to Congress, responsible for advancing the President’s agenda in the House and Senate. Dodin has close ties to the anti-Israel Council on American Islamic Relations and in a 2002 speech, while a student at UC Berkeley, she justified suicide bombings by Palestinian terrorists.

These appointments and others, as well as early moves by President Biden, are a troubling indicator of the position his administration intends to take in regards to Israel; One that undermines Israel through policies like Obama’s Iran deal, and pressures them to concede the heartland of Israel to those who routinely call for Israel's destruction.

But even as the U.S. shifts back to these kinds of anti-Israel policies, we can still make a difference by directly supporting the courageous people living and building in Judea and Samaria.
