Israeli Products Can’t Be Labeled “Made in Israel?!”

Ben Wearp |

Last week, it was reported that US government officials are planning to prohibit products coming from Israeli towns in Judea and Samaria from being labeled as “Made in Israel.” It would be a striking parallel to the boycotts imposed in Germany in 1933, when Jewish businesses were targeted and marked to stop people from shopping at them. The US labeling requirements would target specific Jewish businesses in Israel the United States has deemed obstacles to peace.

This comes as the Biden administration has not hidden its disapproval for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s government and his handling of the war. It also comes at a time the White House is increasing talks and pressure to create a Palestinian State. Finally, it appears to be in retribution for a non-issue the Biden Administration has blown out of proportion—so called “settler violence.”

Can products made in Israel be labeled as "Made in Israel"?

Such labeling requirements date back to the 1990’s, when a US Customs statement was published forbidding products originating in Israel’s Judea and Samaria region (the West Bank) from being labeled as from Israel. “It is not acceptable to mark the aforementioned goods with the words ‘Israel,’ ‘Made in Israel,’ ‘Occupied Territories-Israel’ or any variation thereof,” the statement read.

The requirement was never enforced, but was reiterated by the Obama administration in 2016, when US Customs and Border Protection released a statement with a reminder of the 90’s law. President Obama showed open hostility to Israeli settlers in Judea and Samaria throughout his presidency, and this reminder served as a statement that the administration did not view Judea and Samaria as a legitimate part of Israel.

Then, in 2020, the Trump Administration reversed that policy, recognizing that Israelis living in Judea and Samaria have every right to label their products as being “Made in Israel.”

Ignoring Current Realities

Now, it looks like the US may once again revert to a standard that ignores reality. The decision to target Israeli businesses in Judea and Samaria is part of a pressure campaign to get Israel give up land, and it could lead to boycotts and sanctions. In pursuit of a Palestinian State, the Biden Administration is slandering Israel’s government and ignoring the wishes of a huge majority of Israelis who oppose such a state. In the wake of October 7, Israelis recognize that giving away land would be a reward for the atrocities committed by Hamas, and an invitation to have them happen again.

Judea and Samaria is an inseparable part of Israel. Refusing to recognize this fact can only serve to weaken Israel and prolong the violence. Only the truth—that Jews have every right to live securely in all of their land—can bring stability and peace to the region.

God bless you all!!!! Praying for your peace but not by the antichrist. May God bring peace to you all!!

Sara Lee Fernandez,

Samaria & Judea are Israel. All one country granted by GOD to Abraham and his descendants. Made in God’s promised land seems like a good label.

Sherri Hullinger,

I was in the process of ordering from Israel and suddenly my card was deactivated. I suddenly got two notices on my phone. I immediately checked my account. The transaction did go through. But I suspect it has something to do with Israel. It is deeply disturbing when people are kept from making bricks with the necessary ingredients. But this is when the Great I AM shows His power. Blessing to Israel!

Jinnee,

Praying for the release of hostages and any other Israeli. Praying for Israel and supporting Israel.

Theresa,

We always pray for The Peace In Jerusalem, God Bless Israel!

Bryan Derdzinski,

So can we purchase items from Israel? To America.

Dawn Vinci,

God bless Israel!!! From Canada we pray for you everyday and we know The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob will always protect you. We love you and stand beside you!!!

Rob ,

There is no such place as “the west bank” or “the gaza strip” or “palestine”.
3,000 years ago, one kingdom split into two and Samaria became the capital of Israel while Jerusalem became the capital of Judea.
YWHW promised to one day reunite those two kingdoms again on “the mountains of Israel” (Samaria).
In 1967, when Israel gained control of Jerusalem, that promise was fulfilled.

Ezekiel 37:22 KJV — And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all.

I would not want to tempt YWHW, the God of Israel, who proves his greatness over and over again by fulfilling 3,000 year old prophecies right before our eyes.

David Thompson,

It is so sad to see how far left, and anti God and anti Israel America is becoming. I would love to say, oh just ignore the current ‘resident in the White House. However, I think we need to sit up and take notice of the way ‘the puppet’, or whomever is pulling the puppet’s strings, is moving America from its founding core morals, decency and its support for God’s one and only Jewish state. After the horrific events on October 7th, it seems we have crossed the threshold. Jewish hatred is more rampant and boldly displayed worldwide, since Israel became a state in 1948. It is apparently clear, the current U.S. administration is more interested in promoting their leftist liberal woke agendas, and appeasing their voter base by willfully throwing Israel under the bus while ‘going soft’ on the evil bloodthirsty death cult terrorist organizations. Unbelievable! In so doing, America is ever increasingly distancing themselves from Israel; turning its back on God’s Holy Land and the Jewish people. I am an American and I love my country. But, I have profound differences with our current administration, particularly its foreign policy. On one hand they claim to support Israel. But, when the Democratic voter base begins nashing its teeth, they quickly lash out and condemn Israel for some absurd reasons. America, you better be careful; not supporting Israel is a dangerous slippery slope. America has been safe, wealthy and prosperous for well over 200 years. Primarily because it has adhered to its founding Godly principles and it’s support of Israel.
God says in His word: I will bless those who bless Israel. And, I will curse those who curse Israel. I love the Jewish people and Jerusalem. And, inspite of the fake news reports, there are millions of Americans that love and support Israel as well. And, whom completely agree Judea and Samaria IS Israel. I will continue to pray for God to bless Israel, and to keep a protective hedge about her.
I am so grateful for having the opportunity to visit there twice; I hope to again, soon. Israelis should be proud of who they are and what they contribute to the world. Israelis should continue selling their amazing products in America and around the world, proudly labeling them as being made in Judea, Samaria or wherever their products are made.
Hope prevails. And, God is still on the throne.

Ron Fournier,

Shalom everybody. I am praying for the well being of all of Israel, and my GOD continue to protect Israel and give victory over all who hate Israel and our true GOD.

Dale,

I’m just thankful that I get to buy from Israel to help and support these wonder people. I’m always interested in trying different things to eat from different cultures. All though it’s just cookies I can get which I really enjoy and the soaps too. I just want to keep supporting Israel it’s not that much that I’m able but I will keep buying as long as I can. Thank you Israel God bless. And on this Biden administration, I’ll just keep my mouth shut I’ve been very vocal on how I feel about what’s going on God sees and knows what’s going on. He doesn’t need to hear it again from me. 😊🙏

Diane Hurley,

It seems hypocritical that an administration which allows males who identify as females to be identified as females. BUT, products made by Israelis in an area that is historically, biblically and currently within Israel cannot be identified as Made In Israel. Here i the U.S., we have been suffering with 3+ years of this type of insanity and it must be stopped.
Michael Plotycia,

No matter what the anti Israel administration says, we will continue to buy your products, Judea and Samaria is Israel!

Stanley Corbin,

As long as G_D gives me breath and the means to do so, I will support Israel who stands with her G_D of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob!!! Praying for the peace of Israel and protection of your people!!!

Michelle Stone,

We stand behind Israel.
We stand for “Made in Israel” labels.
Father God help Israel be free from torment.
This is wrong.

Kay & Larry Blevins ,

As a staunch supporter of Israel (I was born there and hold dual citizenship) and as the father of two boys who live in Israel, I fully support Israel’s legal and moral rights to Judea and Samaria (the West Bank).
That said, I find it odious to compare the policy at hand with the Nazi boycott of Jewish enterprises. Here is why: First, Israel itself does not consider most of these lands to be part of Israel (with the exception of East Jerusalem and its environs). Israel has not annexed these areas. Thus, while Israel is certainly not prepared to give up much of Judea and Samaria, even in the context of a final (at the moment only a dream!) peace agreement, even Israel agrees that products made in J and S are not technically “made in Israel.”
As for the United States, it has long held that the final status of the territories should be the subject of a negotiated settlement, on the basis of UN Security Council Resolution 242. While the intent of 242 is the subject of debate, at minimum, even Israel agrees that it would assume the yielding of “some” lands in exchange for full peace. Israel has indeed given up some land in the past forty years, and thus is certainly in compliance with 242.
Given all this, one can understand the Biden administration position that to label such products “made in Israel” prejudices the final status of these territories. It is a horrible notion to compare this position to the Nazi boycott of Jewish businesses. That boycott was premised upon a hatred of Jews. The U.S. position here may indeed be wrong, but it is certainly not based on a hatred of Jews!
