Israel's Election Results and the Future of the Biblical Heartland

Israel's Election Results and the Future of the Biblical Heartland

Ben Wearp |

With most of the votes counted in Israel’s election, a picture is beginning to emerge of what the future of Israel’s government could look like. Election turnout was at historic highs, and the big question was: Would Prime Minister Netanyahu survive politically, or would parties in the opposition win big enough to force him out? As it stands right now, the current government under Netanyahu has a five-seat lead over the opposition parties, excluding the Arab parties (Israel’s parliamentary election results are apportioned in seats).

The Road to a New Government

The magic number in Israeli elections is 61—the number of seats needed to form a majority government. So far, even with Netanyahu’s surprising lead, he is short of what he needs to preserve the government with the current parties. The three likely options are new elections, a minority government, or a unity government. If no party is able to form a government, Israelis would head back to the polls within 90 days. A minority government short of 61 seats would be very fragile, while a unity government–where Netanyahu joins forces with an opposition party–would face serious challenges in its formation.

While many challenges for Israel loom on the horizon, including Haredi welfare and conscription and the economy, we’re going to focus on a few related to Blessed Buy Israel’s involvement in Israel: The heartland of Israel, the multifront security threat, and Israel’s increasing isolation in the international community.

What Lies Ahead for the New Government

Let’s look at the first of those, the future of the biblical heartland of Israel–Judea and Samaria, also known as the West Bank–and the challenges Israel’s government will face to secure the land. Judea and Samaria is the area most of the world wants to tear away from Israel and turn into a Palestinian State. The area is home to more than half a million Jews and a few million Arab Palestinians, most of whom support Hamas and the massacre of October 7, 2023. Israel’s future government will have to make difficult decisions on how to strengthen Jewish presence in the biblical heartland, deal with terrorism, and withstand world pressure to give up land.

The new government will also have to deal with the multiple threats in the broader area: Iran, Gaza, Lebanon, Yemen, and Syria. Much progress has been made in the past three years, but total victory will require a lot of wisdom and tough decision-making. In the near future, Israel and the United States will need to continue close cooperation in order to bring down the Iranian terrorist regime.

Then there’s pressure from the international community. We wrote recently about how 2026 has been a crazy year when it comes to nations taking action against Israel, particularly its presence in the biblical heartland. Spain, the Netherlands, the UK, and Canada, to name a few, have all announced or enacted sanctions against Israeli citizens and products originating in Judea and Samaria. Israel faces eroding support in many countries of the world and the new Israeli government will have to navigate this opposition and continue doing what’s best for the nation even if the world continues to turn against it.

These elections are also very important as they are the first since the October 7, 2023 massacre. They reflect everything Israel is currently dealing with and has been through since then. Tough days are ahead for Israel’s leaders and your prayers and continued support of Israel are very important, especially during these times. Pray for good leaders to take office to bring Israel through these challenges to greater unity and total victory!
